Insurance Information

As of March 1, 2021, the Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare's National Health Insurance Policy for International Students went into effect. Thus, as of the 1st semester of the 2021 school year, ERICA international student medical insurance consists of two different insurance policies: the University’s Group Insurance policy and the National Health Insurance policy.

National Health Insurance Coverage period

International students shall be charged 50% of an alien resident’s monthly insurance premium. Please contact the National Health Insurance Corporation for the exact amount

Subscribing to National Health Insurance

The National Health Insurance Corporation sends a notice to those eligible for mandatory coverage to the address indicated on their Alien Registration Card.

Deposit the amount specified in the account number written on the bill before the prescribed deadline for deposits.

National Health Insurance Coverage Details

(Easy access to hospitals) Available at most clinics, hospitals, pharmacies, etc. in Korea

※ For inpatient treatment, students pay 20% of the medical expenses, whereas for outpatient treatment, students pay 30-60% - the rest is paid by the National Health Insurance Corporation directly to the medical institution.
※ Medical expenses: Only medical expenses covered by the National Health Insurance are covered. Non-reimbursable expenses must be paid fully by the student

Limited access to National Health Insurance benefits

Students who are served a notice for forced collection, but fail to pay by the forced collection deadline, may have their income and assets in Korea seized.

Warning

If a student leaves the country for 1 month or more, insurance premiums are waived for that period. (insurance must be paid if leaving the country for less than 1 month)

Students taking language courses should contact their language school for insurance-related inquiries.

If you are a Japanese international student and have valid Japanese National Health Insurance, you can apply for an exemption by calling the National Health Insurance Corporation.

International students holding an F-class visa must inquire with the National Health Insurance Corporation for insurance premiums and costs.

Filing a claim for National Health Insurance

National Health Insurance applies automatically to medical expenses, which means students do not have to file a claim after their treatment.
